I met Jef from Carolina Car Finders at Bunky’s – the car detail place just up the street from me…well, actually Jef picked me up in his truck, with his two Golden Retrievers as I was walking over to Bunky’s. I was super excited. I was curious to see the Element, curious to see if the things that initially drove me away from the car back in 2006 would still be in play in the 2008 model.
The car was in amazing condition. Most Elements that you find for sale in a cursory web search have been in accidents and need a lot of work. This one looked brand spanking new. We went around the car, checking out the original body panels and looking at the the lack of rust on the underbody. Pristine. And slippery. Everything, inside and out, that could be had been slathered with ArmorAll.

Everything was in super good order, except the a/c. In going over the vehicle, Jef’s mechanic had discovered the compressor wasn’t working. It would be a few days before the required part would be in and that could be fixed. No matter.
When I got behind the wheel I did not have the same cavernous feeling as I did years ago. The car seemed perfectly comfortable. And no weird blind spot. I guess the model year changes took car of that.
Driving the Element felt more like driving my old 2005 CR-V. More apt, the 2017 CR-V is like a luxury Acura and the Element is like a truck.
Oh, we are going to have so much fun together!
